General[]
Buttercup Treat is a Perseverance spell that fits in a wide variety of Perseverance decks. It sets a non-DT monster's ATK to 1. At the end of the turn, the monster is silenced, which purges the ATK debuff. The targeted monster also gains Candy and KR.
This card serves a dual purpose, making it suited to various Perseverance decks. It can allow your monsters to attack an enemy while avoiding most of the counterattack damage, serving as a low cost removal spell. Buttercup Treat is also a low cost Silence card. Keep in mind that the Silence only applies at the end of your turn.
You can also use this card to give Candy to ally monsters you can afford to Silence. Candy will proc after the Delay, healing the monster for 3 HP that same turn. However, using it to mitigate counterattack damage from enemies often results in more HP saved than Candy provides.
Synergies[]
Buttercup Treat has an excellent synergy with Muffet's Pet, which kills any monster with 2 or less ATK. This synergy is commonly used and is sometimes referred to as "Treatpet".
Buttercup Treat can also be used in self-silence decks with monsters that have great stats but negative effects, such as Ice Wolf or Diamond Boy 2. It also erases enemy monsters that are caught by Dimensional Box, Queen or Seam.
Sometimes Buttercup Treat can set up KR for Royal Perseverance, if you are saving up for a big wipe next turn.
Counters[]
Monsters with passive "aura" ATK gains can mitigate Buttercup Treat's immediate effect, though the Silence will then remove the ATK-boosting ability. A damaged Carbed and Trashy are examples of such monsters. This is still a counter because it puts these cards out of range of Muffet's Pet's instakill.
In general, Buttercup Treat is best suited for dealing with bigger targets, and is less useful against a swarm of smaller monsters.
